August Already?

I guess its time to update! It has been a while, and I apologize, we have been so busy but taking full advantage of this beautiful summer, it is hard to find time to blog when the sun is shining! Watch, when the cold weather roles around I will be updating every other day.

There is actually not a whole lot to update anyways. Alec has had 4 treatments already, his fifth today. He is doing well, just nausea and tired. Dr. Allen and Katie are mixing up his nausea medication in hopes to get it under control. Other than that he is looking and feeling pretty good. His hair is growing back, first on his face now his head. I told him he looked like an ex-con with a bald head and go-tee, all he needed was a tattoo crawling up his neck.

August 10th he will be re-scanned to check on the spots and determine whether the chemo is working or not. I am not going to lie...I am nervous about this and have been praying my heart out. Please say an extra prayer that we get good news and his body his fighting a good fight and the chemo is killing the cancer.

Besides chemo, we have been having a fabulous summer. So many friends, family and fish to keep us busy...Alec and I are so lucky! Every where I turn a friend is either getting engaged, married or having babies. This summer has been a whirlwind of celebrations and I just love getting those phone calls...the ones that start with "I have some exciting news...!" Every weekend this summer has been "no vacancy" at our home and that's just the way I like it.

Here is a recap of the past few weeks!

Feehan girls night out...Kate Maker got engaged so naturally we had to pop open a couple bottles of champagne and celebrate. Hannah, her younger sister got engaged a week later! Cath and her hubby bought their first home....and, Caitlin is expecting her second baby! So much happiness! Congrats girls!

Alecs friends Steve and his girlfriend Lorraina were visiting from San Diego and made a special trip up to see us! We had a great time on the boat.

Me, Melina, and Alyssa enjoyed a boat ride and some fishing. The boys, Adam, Alec and Steve were up at 4:00am that morning fishing and went out for round two at 4:00pm with the ladies. Lyss and Steve are expecting their first baby in January! So happy for them!

Weekend in Newport, RI for Melinas bachlorette and bridal shower! Melina and Adam are getting married 8/21 and we are so excited! We cant wait to attend our first Greek wedding.

Alec and I visited Tina, Bob, Julia and Jill and Brian at the cottage and spent a lovely day at the lake. I haven't been to the lake in so many years, it was nice to be there again and just relax for a change.

Bob, Brian and Alec on the boat...notice how Alec is in the middle where he does not have to paddle, but can FISH!

Smallest fish of the season! (Someone had to catch it!)

Julia's first trip to the cottage was a success!

My "bestie from the westie" Meg was out this past weekend visiting from Oregon! Meg and I were roommates when I lived in California and we became fast friends and had loads of fun together. Our third roommate who owned the condo, kicked us out of because of "unruly" behavior, I think we have both tamed it down a little since then. The last time I saw Meg was at our wedding so it was such a thrill to see her in Maine! Her new fiance, Jesse (they just got engaged last week in Maine on a beach) has tons of family who live all over Maine and he has spent every summer out here and if Meg approves (which I am sure she will) they will continue to take summer vacations in Maine which means I will see Meg for the rest of my life every year. (I am so happy!)

Julia's first Birthday party! We had a great time celebrating Julias big day down in Southie at the park. She is getting so big!

As you can see, we are thoroughly enjoying the summer. I am always praying and looking for "God Winks". I know that God is with us always and that so many people are praying for Alec. We really HOPE that this chemo is doing its job and we will receive some good news next week. As you might imagine, I am a bit more reserved with my "optimism". After the last scan, when we did not get good news, I was left heart broken and distraught. It was like getting sucker punched in the stomach and it took us a while to pull ourselves back up after being knocked down so low. So I figure, if I am not as optimistic, maybe it wont hurt as bad. The unfortunate thing about having this attitude is it makes it harder to get through each day without the "what ifs". I am just trying to maintain that positive attitude, but in a more cautious way and also looking to God for the STRENGTH to get us through any and all obstacles along the way.

Alec looking to catch one more fish before the sun goes down.

Riding in the boat along the coast of Maine with Alec at the helm, I become overwhelmed with feelings of happiness, how lucky we are to have such an amazing group of family and friends to carry us through this time. We are so grateful for every single day and for every special person in our lives.

Thank you all for your prayers, support, cards, everything is just amazing. We are so blessed. I promise I will update next week with scan results, but please say an extra prayer!

Love always,

Heather, Alec and Millie
